Teaching
María Angélica is module leader for Qualitative Methods 1b: Images and Systems. The aim of the module **is to understand visual language as a multidimensional process of inquiry, which proceeds by mapping, analysing and creating representations. Students will learn methods like systems thinking, design thinking, infographics, visual literacy, video production and post-production. This module provides students with the skills for exploring forms of thinking that emphasise visual phenomena.
In second year she’s module lead for Visual and Creative Methods. Our world is awash with images, but they do not exist in isolation: they are found in complex networks of mutual presupposition and entanglement. This is how they create meaning. The module will reflect this by immersing students in the process of gathering visual information (recollection methods), of creating an archive (analytic methods) and in their own processes of creative research.
As part of the MASc in Culture and Complexity, the module Re: Form: Understanding and Manipulating Visual Media will explore the interplay between human imagination and visual media (understood to take in image, video, and 3D objects). In practice, this will involve using perspectives from art theory, visual studies, art history, cognitive science, and data science to frame how the visual media are theorised by contemporary thought.
