We are excited to announce that Mathilde Blunt has won the LIS x Jacobs Challenge: Reinvent your Highstreet.
Highly commended were both Alex Doyle and Mike Tuthill.
The prizes
Mathilde, Mike, and Alex will each receive 1:1 mentoring with a senior member of the Jacob’s leadership team. All three of them are invited to present their ideas to a broader senior professional audience during a “showcase and share” event hosted by LIS and Jacobs with invited attendees from Greater London Authority. Mathilde will also shadow Jacobs on one of their multi-billion pound regeneration projects here in London.
Meet the winners
Mathilde’s submission looked at how to make the most of green spaces (however small!) within tightly packed cities.
“I am interested in the relationship between using art, design and research to creatively problem solve social issues. I have previously studied Art & Design and also Photography in Norwich.”
The visual part to her submission is this striking piece of artwork:
Alex delved into social sustainability, with a focus on water availability (which is predicted to become a scarce commodity by 2050).
“I am 19 years old and currently live in Essex. I was lucky enough to complete a gap year before 2020, reaching as far as Australia, Indonesia, Thailand and more recently Italy! Within my studies I love to focus upon the natural world, and what we can do to sustain it. Another passion of mine is psychology, however outside of education I love to play sports, particularly volleyball and football, and being born in Manchester I am a die hard Man City fan.”
Mike’s submission discussed the impact that active, green travel could have on Cardiff city centre.
“I am currently a urban planning student at Cardiff University aspiring to deliver innovative urban solutions.”
